This weekend, our guild of voice actors here in Nashville, Pro Vox Circle, has had the honor of hosting a two-day seminar with industry legend, Marice Tobias.
Some call her the ‘voice-whisperer’ because of the way her keen powers of observation and direction can bring out an actor’s most authentic performance, but I see her more as a voiceover mystic.
“The bigger the ideas, the simpler you should play it.”
“Your gift can be a curse until you understand it.”
“Don’t worry about your age, concern yourself with where you fit into this moment in time.”
“The voice is a mirror of your life.”
While she can wax eloquently and insightfully for hours about trends in advertising and the hidden mechanics of the industry, the message she always comes back around to time and again is surrender. Powerful performance happens when we can get out of our own way and allow our authentic self to speak.
And this is true not just behind the mic, but in all of life.
How often do we overwork and over-complicate things; not just in our jobs, but in our relationships, our finances, our health, when doing less would actually give us more of what we really want?
Are we striving and efforting where we could just release and go with the flow instead?
You, dear one, are unique, special and different among all of the other shining stars in this world. We need your unique light to help illuminate the darkness. Perhaps now more than ever.
That’s why you’re here today. In this very moment.
This week, I hope you will allow yourself to simply surrender and shine just one degree more than you ever have before.
Make this week magnificent!
