Today I begin my fortieth revolution around the Sun. Hard to believe it’s my final 30s birthday, but here we are! Although I still feel twenty-five on the inside, each passing year seems to get better than the one that preceded it, so I don’t have any desire to turn back time. Bring it on, Life…
A birthday is a good day for reflection and looking over lessons learned along the way, so this edition of SES is going to be a collection of a few of my favorites from past editions. And, to be fully transparent, I was so preoccupied with launching my new automotive voiceover brand and hosting some friends who are in town to help me celebrate this weekend that I hardly had time to read, watch or listen to much of anything this week!
Here are three of my all-time favorite items shared from the first sixty-three installments of Sunday Espresso Shot:
READ: So often, we can get caught up in the process of striving for achieving our goals, whether career, financial or creative, and forget to simply surrender to life and joy. Powerful, poignant and poetic, the reflections of artist, Agnes Martin, go right to the heart of how to live well. “Living by inspiration is living. Living by intellect — by comparisons, calculations, schemes, concepts, ideas — is all a structure of pride in which there is not beauty or happiness — no life.”
WATCH: This delightful little TED Talk from Pico Iyer reminds us that letting go of the desire to know and control everything is central to enjoying the journey of life. A couple of my favorite quotes: “Transformation comes when I’m not in charge, when I don’t know what’s coming next.” and “The first law of travel, and therefore, of life: you’re only as strong as your readiness to surrender.”
LISTEN: Trust me. Take four and a half minutes to enjoy the intimate and soothing vocal stylings of Polish singer Oly. while immersing yourself in this touching little cinematic story of two sisters’ life and love. You’ll be glad you did.
Make this week magnificent!
